Over the years, we have established contact with other charities that are patient support groups. We share information about contacts and strategies and generally collaborate to establish best practice and the relationships soon become mutually beneficial.

A new contact was made last week when we were contacted by the Shuttlewood Clarke Foundation (SCF) who ‘Support the elderly, adults with disabilities and young people through wellbeing activities, outdoor education and inspiring support services’.

Several of the members of the Foundation have Pernicious Anaemia and they contacted us to ask if there was a support group for people with PA in the Leicester area. We did have a very active group in Leicester but, unfortunately due to illness, the organiser has been unable to play any further part in the group and they haven’t met for two years.

The Shuttlewood Clarke Foundation would like to help re-establish the group who have kindly set up an open meeting on Thursday 31st August and would like to invite members of the PA Society from Leicester and surrounding areas to attend. The group will meet between 10am and 12 noon and it is hoped that this will be the relaunch of the Leicester Support Group which was so many people found beneficial.

PA Society Chairman Martyn Hooper MBE will be giving a presentation on ‘The Challenges of Living with Pernicious Anaemia’.

So that the organiser will have some idea of how many people will be attending please contact Kathleen Wass by email – kathleen@shuttlewood-clarke.org or by telephone 07860 639693.
