Help grow our local support network

22 Feb, 2020

Pernicious Anaemia Society

We are extremely thankful for the effort and hard work of our Support Group Coordinators who organise meetings of members of this society in their local area. We know how important these local groups are for providing the opportunity to speak to fellow sufferers which alleviates one of the worst aspects of Pernicious Anaemia – that feeling of isolation that patients experience and wrote about this recently. We already have 15 groups allover the country, but we would like to expand the network. As our support network continues to grow, we have become aware that there is a need for the coordinators to come together and share problems, offer solutions and discover best practices. There is also a need for all coordinators to be aware of what the groups can and cannot do in order to protect the Pernicious Anaemia Society brand and help to provide a framework within which the group can operate.

Training Day

And so, a training day will be held at the society’s offices in Bridgend, south Wales in the near future. If you are considering setting up a group near you but feel you need more information and some instruction as to the do’s and don’ts of setting up a group you will be welcome to attend the event. It is not going to be a formal affair and we promise not to intimidate you! We are able to pay reasonable travel costs (by public transport) and can arrange and pay for accommodation. For more information do get in touch.

Existing Groups

We are especially looking for members to take over the already existing groups Hampshire, Leicestershire and South Scotland. Unfortunately our coordinators there are unable to continue due to personal circumstances but they are available to help you out with getting started. In Leicester we already have a venue so you can can started straight away. It would be such a shame if these groups would disappear, so if you’d like to take over or would like more information, do let us know. We are also aware of the real need for a group in all regions of Scotland as well as Yorkshire, Essex and Cornwall. Please have a look at the groups we already have and if there is no group in your area, do consider setting one up. Just send us an email or telephone the office and we’ll provide you with all the information and help you need to get started.

    Hello

I may be interested in setting up a group in Cornwall but would like more information. I work full time and have a young family so am unclear what I could commit to. I do know 3 other people with PA who I may be able to convince to support me.
