On June 26th our new website went live. One of the main changes to the site and the Society has been the introduction of a new membership system. The old system offered just one class of members – £20 lifetime membership. This brought with it problems however. We would receive telephone calls from members who had joined six years previously and who would ask for us to get involved in their Employment tribunals or wanted us to write letters etc. And it seemed a little unfair that they had enjoyed six years of membership and were still eligible for free advice etc. Most members who joined the society, had full access to the website, found out what they wanted to know and we never saw them again, which was fine, but it didn’t seem right that they could keep asking for information six years after they had originally joined. And there was the additional problem of people who wanted to pay more than the £20 required to join the society. Their only option was to make an additional donation. So, we decided to begin a new system of becoming a member.
New Membership Categories
Bronze Member: Membership for a full year for £20. You can then choose to renew for a further 12 months by paying another £20.
Silver Member: An initial joining fee of £20 for the first year. After the first year your membership is renewed automatically for only £10 a year. The membership fee will be deducted from your Debit or Credit card/PayPal account automatically every year. You will be able to cancel your membership at any time in your account settings.
Lifetime Member (Gold): Gold Membership is for life for a single payment of £100. You will also receive a Welcome Pack which will include a signed copy of the Chairman’s latest book ‘What you Need to Know About Pernicious Anaemia and Vitamin B12 Deficiency’ (with a cover price of £14.99), two car window stickers, two Pernicious Anaemia Society pens and two PAS wristbands
We will honour our commitment of a one-off lifetime membership to members who joined before June 26th.
Existing members will be now classed as ‘Legacy Members’ for the purpose of our database and no payment will be required.
The only difference that Legacy Members will find is that when they log into the new website for the first time they will be asked to enter their email rather than a username. You will also be asked to reset your password by clicking on the ‘Lost Password’ link. Fill in your emailaddress and you will receive a link to create a new password via email. This is for added security and is a requirement of the new system.
If you have any problems email the Website Administrator for help.
Legacy Members will continue to receive the same membership benefits as Silver and Bronze members, but with lifetime website access.
You do not have to renew your membership.
Because Legacy Members are already lifetime members there is no possibility to upgrade, but if you would still like to change to one of the new membership levels then do the following:
Go into your account here on the website.
Click on ‘Cancel’ below ‘My Memberships’.
Click on the link to go to the Homepage.
Click in the top of the screen on ‘Become a Member’ and rejoin as a Silver, Gold or Bronze Member.
If you have any questions about your membership please contact us.
