About the Pernicious Anaemia Society
Formation of the Society
The society was originally formed in March 2005 by Martyn Hooper, now the chair of the Society. The society was originally based around the Forum.
Because of the enormous numbers of visitors to the forum, it was decided to set the society on a firmer footing by establishing a formal society, with a constitution and a steering committee of volunteer Trustees.
All of the formalities and criteria to be recognised by the Charity Commission as a charity have been fulfilled and, on 10th July 2006, we received notification that the Pernicious Anaemia Society was entered onto the Central Register of Charities, with the registered number of 1115195.
Objectives of the Society
The Objectives of the Society are to:
- Promote and protect the physical and mental health of sufferers of Pernicious Anaemia through the provision of support, education and practical advice.
- Advance the education of the general public in all areas relating to Pernicious Anaemia.
- Promote research into the causes and treatment of Pernicious Anaemia and into the implication of Pernicious Anaemia on other medical conditions for the public benefit.
How the Society Operates
The Society operates on a volunteer basis. It has no full time staff members, and is run entirely by sufferers of Pernicious Anaemia.
The Society meets on a 2-3 month basis to discuss fundraising tactics and other issues. We are happy to invite other sufferers to these sessions.
There are 6 main roles fulfilled by the Trustees:
- Chairman
- Secretary
- Treasurer
- IT & Communications
- Fundraising Leader
- Membership Secretary
